Come let us Grow Together: We are the Body of Christ, and Members in particular

Come let us Grow Together is a weekly series that deals with the many topical categories that exist within the Word of God. The purpose of this series is to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in things pertaining to God.

For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: That there should be NO SCHISM in the body; but that the members should have the SAME CARE one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members SUFFER with it; or one member be honoured, all the members REJOICE with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. (1 Cor 12:24-27)

This is what we are striving for concerning Charity in the Body of Christ. Charity being Love.

Charity suffereth LONG, and is KIND; charity envieth NOT; charity vaunteth NOT itself, IS NOT puffed up, DOTH NOT behave itself unseemly, SEEKETH NOT her own, IS NOT easily provoked, thinketh NO EVIL; Rejoiceth NOT in iniquity, but REJOICETH in the truth; BEARETH all things, BELIEVETH all things, HOPETH all things, ENDURETH all things. CHARITY NEVER FAILETH: (1 Cor 13:4-8)

This is what we are striving for concerning Unity in the Body of Christ.

And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. These all continued with ONE ACCORD in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. (Acts 1:13-14)

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with ONE ACCORD in one place. (Acts 2:1)

And they, continuing DAILY with ONE ACCORD in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with GLADNESS and SINGLENESS of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord ADDED to the church DAILY such as should be saved. (Acts 2:46-47)

This is what we are striving to put away from us as the Body of Christ.

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you ENVYING, and STRIFE, and DIVISIONS, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? (1 Cor 3:3)

Let all BITTERNESS, and WRATH, and ANGER, and CLAMOUR, and EVIL SPEAKING, be put away from you, with all MALICE: (Eph 4:31)

This is what we are striving for concerning the members of the Body of Christ!

And be ye KIND one to another, TENDERHEARTED, FORGIVING one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (Eph 4:32)

Be of the SAME MIND one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. BE NOT wise in your own conceits. RECOMPENSE to no man evil for evil. Provide things HONEST in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live PEACEABLY with all men. Dearly beloved, AVENGE NOT yourselves, but rather GIVE PLACE unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is MINE; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Rm 12:16-19)

We then that are strong ought to BEAR THE INFIRMITIES of the weak, and NOT TO PLEASE ourselves. Let every one of us PLEASE his neighbour FOR HIS GOOD TO EDIFICATION. For even Christ PLEASED NOT himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee FELL ON ME. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for OUR LEARNING, that we through PATIENCE and COMFORT of the scriptures might have HOPE. Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be LIKEMINDED one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with ONE MIND and ONE MOUTH glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore RECEIVE ye one another, as Christ also RECEIVED US to the glory of God. (Rm 15:1-7)

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all SPEAK THE SAME THING, and that there be NO DIVISIONS among you; but that ye be PERFECTLY JOINED together in the SAME MIND and in the same judgment. For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. (1 Cor 1:10-11)

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be PERFECT, be of GOOD COMFORT, be of ONE MIND, live in PEACE; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. (2 Cor 13:11)

Only let your CONVERSATION BE as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in ONE SPIRIT, with ONE MIND STRIVING together for the FAITH OF THE GOSPEL; (Phil 1:27)

IF there be therefore any consolation in Christ, IF any comfort of love, IF any fellowship of the Spirit, IF any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye BE LIKEMINDED, having the SAME LOVE, being of ONE ACCORD, of ONE MIND. Let nothing be done through STRIFE or VAINGLORY; but in lowliness of mind let each ESTEEM OTHER BETTER than themselves. (Phil 2:1-3)

Finally, be ye all of ONE MIND, having COMPASSION one of another, LOVE as brethren, be PITIFUL, be COURTEOUS: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but CONTRARIWISE BLESSING; knowing that ye are thereunto CALLED, that ye should INHERIT a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him REFRAIN HIS TONGUE from evil, and HIS LIPS that they speak NO GUILE: Let him ESCHEW evil, and do GOOD; let him SEEK PEACE, and ENSUE IT. (1 Peter 3:8-11)
