To be Carnally Minded is Death

As many of us already know, it is essential that we not walk after the flesh, but that we walk after the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:6-8 says
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Romans 8:13
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

We must put to death the deeds of the body and live unto Christ!!

Colossians 3:4-13
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

1 Corinthians 11:1-2
1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

Matthew 16:24-27
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

1 John 2:3-6
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Let us also be followers of Christ! Let us also walk as He walked. Let us Pick up our cross and deny ourselves!!!

Romans 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Here Apostle Paul has told us that presenting ourselves a living sacrifice is our reasonable service. That means it’s only fair that we should offer ourselves a sacrifice to God since Jesus Christ also offered himself a sacrifice for us all that we may be reconciled unto God again. Again in the following verse we are told to not be conformed to this world but rather transformed from the world. The word transform means: to change in condition, nature, or character; convert.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-23
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Notice that the Apostle Paul tells us that he prays God for our whole spirit, soul, and body that they be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus. It is important how you clothe your body so that you will be found blameless when the Lord does come.

James 3:13-15
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

Romans 13:13-14
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Ephesians 4:1-3
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:22-32
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Philippians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Colossians 2:5-7
5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

1 Timothy 6:11-12
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

2 Timothy 2:22
22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

James 5:12
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

1 Peter 1:13-16
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

1 Peter 2:24
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Peter 2:5, 9
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

We are no longer our own. We have been bought with the price of blood. Our bodies now are a temple wherein the Holy Ghost dwells. We now have become a royal priesthood, that offers up spiritual sacrifices, unto the Lord. A people now called unto the showing forth of praises to Him that has called us out of darkness into His Glorious light.

Romans 6:19,22
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Here we have been given a filter by Apostle Paul for our thoughts. If our thoughts do not line up with whatsoever is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of a good report, then we need to get our thoughts back under subjection to the obedience of Christ.

C & C: Choice, Predestined, End Before Beginning, Heart

Connections and Comparisons is an ongoing weekly series that deals with many scriptures in the Bible, some of which are not commonly addressed. The purpose of this series is to examine the scriptures at hand comparing what is said and looking at the connections within.

Choice

Matthew 15:19
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

It is out of your heart that evil thoughts proceed, not your mind. It is within your heart that “evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies”.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

It is in your mind that you acknowledge the thoughts that were born out of your heart and then choose to cast “down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

It is not enough for you to decide what you believe is right and wrong! You need the knowledge of God contained within the Word of God to be able to bring “into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. The choice is yours!

Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

You must come unto Jesus Christ by choice “and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” However to obtain this rest you must “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me”. It is not enough to claim the name of Jesus Christ and refuse to take his yoke upon you and refuse to learn of him.

Yoke: (1.) Fitted on the neck of oxen for the purpose of binding to them the traces by which they might draw the plough, etc. (Num 19:2; Deut 21:3). It was a curved piece of wood called ‘ol —Easton’s Illustrated Dictionary

It is your choice to take the yoke of Jesus Christ upon you and to learn of him. However, if you do not do so, then you will not be able to cast “down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” because you are not being obedient to Jesus Christ and the Word of God and you are still under the yoke of bondage of sin.

You will have a yoke upon you! Either the yoke of satan or the yoke of the Lord Jesus Christ! You are either a servant of Jesus Christ or you are a servant of the devil. You are ploughing the field but who are you ploughing for? You are either gathering in or scattering abroad! The choice is yours!

Hosea 10:12-13
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

Galatians 6:7-9
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Matthew 12:30
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

Luke 9:57-62
57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luke 6:46
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Matthew 7:21-27
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

2 Timothy 2:19
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

The choice is yours!

Joshua 24:14-15
14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Predestined

Even though it is out of your heart that “evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” take place and not in your mind, it is in your mind that you acknowledge the thoughts that were born out of your heart and then choose to cast “down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

The choice is yours! We are predestinated according to the foreknowledge of God that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. And as being such we must be conformed to the image of his Son. To be conformed to the image of his Son you must be obedient to the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. You must partake of being born again as instructed by Jesus Christ to Nicodemus and obedient to the words of his Apostles and Prophets.

1 Peter 1:1-5
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Being born again of water and of the Spirit and Jesus instructed Nicodemus being obedient to the words of his Apostles and Prophets saying, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2:38-39)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

James 1:18
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Romans 8:29-39
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We are predestinated unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will. “Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” However, this only applies to those who choose to serve him in obedience and “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me”. It is not enough to claim the name of Jesus Christ and refuse to take his yoke upon you and refuse to learn of him. You must be born again as the Apostle Peter instructed us “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” (Acts 2:38-39)

Ephesians 1:3-14
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Are you born again according to the Word of God? Have you partook of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection according to the scriptures? The choice is yours! Whose yoke will you wear? Whose plough will you pull? Whose seeds will you plant? Whose word will you obey? Are you sown of the Lord Jesus Christ or are you sown of the enemy the devil?

John 3:1-6
1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 1:12-13
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

It is not enough to claim the name of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior as Jesus clearly states. You must be born again of the water and of the Spirit as Jesus instructed us and you must also be obedient to the words of the Apostles and Prophets as Jesus also instructs us!

John 17:20-21
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Do you believe the words of Jesus who told us “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word”?

Ephesians 2:19-22
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Do you want to be part of this building of the Lord? The choice is yours!

Acts 13:48
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

End Before Beginning

Isaiah 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

Romans 4:16-17
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

Revelation 3:14
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

Revelation 13:8
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Was “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”? According to the Word of God. How so? “God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.” How so? ” I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure”. It is in this same manner that Jesus says, “These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God” . How was Jesus “the beginning of the creation of God”? “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14) Who was the Word? “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1) “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.” (Isaiah 43:10-11) “The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:2-3) “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:” (Ephesians 3:9-11) “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Heb 1:1-3)

Heart

Jeremiah 17:9-10
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs 16:25
25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

It is not enough for you to decide what you believe is right and wrong! You need the knowledge of God contained within the Word of God to be able to bring “into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. The choice is yours!

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Isaiah 28:9-10
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

The choice is yours! Whose yoke will you wear?

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY

If any person truly cares about where they spend eternity, please read:

Hebrews 9:16-17
16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

Jesus had to die before the Testament could be implemented.

Jesus told us we must repent. (Lk 13:3,5)
Jesus told us we must believe and be baptized. (Mk 16:16)
Jesus told his disciples what to do. (Lk 24:47)
Jesus said He would send back the Holy Ghost. (Jn 14:26)

The Word of God must all be applied. (2 Tim 3:16)

The foundation is built upon the Apostles and the Prophets. (Eph 2:20)

Jesus was an Apostle and Prophet. (Heb 3:1) (Deut 18:15-19) (Matt 13:57)

To follow Jesus is to follow His Word which is to follow what He instructed His disciples.

This is the only way…….

Acts 2:38-39
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

There is no other way!!!!! Don’t allow yourself to get offended. Search the scriptures that are posted and pray that God will open your understanding…. FOR THERE IS NO OTHER WAY!!!!!! I’m not yelling…… I’m stressing to you all that this is the ONLY WAY!!

Come let us Grow Together: Forbid not to Speak with Tongues

Come let us Grow Together is a weekly series that deals with the many topical categories that exist within the Word of God. The purpose of this series is to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in things pertaining to God.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (Isa 28:9-10)

Precept – a general rule regulating behavior or thought. In this case it is speaking of the Law of Moses and of the Prophets and each precept or commandment one upon another.

For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. (Isa 28:11-12)

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. (Joel 2:28-29)

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)

Just as was prophesied by the Prophet Joel and the Prophet Isaiah. With stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; (Acts 2:14-16)

The people believed what the Apostle Peter was speaking and desired to know how they could be saved.

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? (Acts 2:36-37)

The Apostle Peter replies with the plan of Salvation to all believers.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:38-39)

The initial sign of receiving the free gift of the Holy Ghost was the speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gave the utterance, just as the Prophet Isaiah prophesied would be the case.

Remember: If you have not received the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance, you have not received the free gift of the Holy Ghost.

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) (Acts 8:14-16)

Very clearly it is written that the Holy Ghost was not an automatic gift because you believe on the Lord Jesus, repent of your sins, and are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Of which case you will notice that being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus is the proper way to be baptized as this is the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost being fulfilled as Jesus instructed his disciples.

The 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost are not the same as the initial receiving of the Holy Ghost. The 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost are gifts of the Holy Ghost. You must first have the gift of the Holy Ghost before you can receive any of the 9 gifts of the Holy Ghost. In other words, the gift of divers kinds of tongues is not the same as the receiving of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, as the Spirit gives the utterance. Divers kinds of tongues is one of the 9 gifts of the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Forbid not to Speak with Tongues!

C&C: Once Saved Always Saved

Connections and Comparisons is an ongoing weekly series that deals with many scriptures in the Bible, some of which are not commonly addressed. The purpose of this series is to examine the scriptures at hand comparing what is said and looking at the connections within.

Once Saved Always Saved is a doctrine that teaches that once a person has become born again they can never lose their salvation. Is this doctrine accurate? Let us first begin to examine the Old Testament scriptures even though we are living under the New Testament as “the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ (Gal 3:24) and “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning”. (Rm 15:4)

Deuteronomy 4:9
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

Numbers 15:27-30
27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.
28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.
29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

Numbers 16:38
38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

Numbers 19:13, 20
13 Whosoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth not himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
20 But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he hath defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation hath not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.

Let us now examine what Jesus speaks.

Matthew 7:13-29
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Luke 6:43-49
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Luke 12:42-47
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.
45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Luke 13:22-30
22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

What do we learn in the New Testament concerning the false doctrinal teaching of Once Saved Always Saved?

Romans 6:12-23
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17
16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Corinthians 9:23-27
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Philippians 3:17-21
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Colossians 1:21-23
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Hebrews 3:3-12
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Hebrews 5:8-9
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Hebrews 10:38-39
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Hebrews 12:15-17
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

James 1:12-16
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

2 John 1:8-9
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Revelation 3:5-6
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

It is very clear from scripture that you can turn away from God and lose your salvation because you defiled yourself being the temple of the living God. Therefore the doctrine of Once Saved Always Saved is a false doctrine that is not supported scripturally.

Come Let us Grow Together: Who is Jesus Christ

When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. (Mt 16:13-16)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.  (Jn 1:1,14)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Word of God.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. (Jn 14:16-18)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Comforter.

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:  And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. (Jn 15:26-27)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Truth.

So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. (Rm 8:8-10)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the indwelling Spirit of God.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Gal 2:20)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the indwelling Spirit of God.

Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: (Col 1:26-28)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the hope of glory.

Ok, let us see According to Scripture who Jesus Christ is.

1. Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God!
2. Jesus Christ is the Word of God!
3. Jesus Christ is the Comforter!
4. Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Truth!
5. Jesus Christ is the indwelling Spirit of God! (the Holy Spirit)
6. Jesus Christ is the hope of glory!

Let us go on in the Word of God to see who Jesus Christ really is.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Mt 1:23)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is God with us.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, {i.e. in this manner} that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (2 Cor 5:17-19)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is God with us.

I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: (Rev 1:10-11a)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last.

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (Rev 1:18)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is He that liveth and was dead.

Who is the image of the invisible God, (Col 1:15a)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God.

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Heb 1:3)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. (Col 2:9)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

The prophet Isaiah prophesied of the birth of Christ.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:6)

Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Let us sum up who Jesus Christ really is according to the Word of God.

1.    Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God!
2.    Jesus Christ is the Word of God!
3.    Jesus Christ is the Comforter!
4.    Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Truth!
5.    Jesus Christ is the indwelling Spirit of God! (the Holy Spirit)!
6.    Jesus Christ is the hope of glory!
7.    Jesus Christ is God with us!
8.    Jesus Christ is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last!
9.    Jesus Christ is He that liveth and was dead!
10.  Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God!
11.  Jesus Christ is the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person (singular)!
12.  Jesus Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily!
13.  Jesus Christ is Wonderful!
14.  Jesus Christ is the Counsellor!
15.  Jesus Christ is the Mighty God!
16.  Jesus Christ is the Everlasting Father!
17.  Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace!

Now let’s talk about who Jesus Christ IS NOT according to scripture.

Jesus Christ IS NOT God the Son as this denotes the recognition of a plurality in the Godhead and is not supported scripturally.

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: (Deut 6:4) Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6)

The Hebrew word here translated for LORD is the same in all four instances here meaning, according to the -Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary, self-Existent or Eternal; Jehovah, Jewish national name of God.  Thus Jesus Christ is the revealed name of the Father in the New Testament.

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: (Acts 2:17) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. (Acts 2:32-33) Thus Jesus Christ is the revealed name of the Father in the New Testament.

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (John 10:17-18) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36) Thus Jesus Christ is the revealed name of the Father in the New Testament.

The Sabbath Rest

The establishing of the Sabbath day rest…..

Exodus 20:8-11
8  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Who the Sabbath day rest was for and why…………

Exodus 31:13-17
13  Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
14  Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
15  Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16  Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17  It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Therefore…..

Deuteronomy 5:12-15
12  Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
13  Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:
14  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.
15  And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

As you can see the Sabbath Day was made for man.  It was a covenant between the children of Israel and God.  The purposes in the keeping of the Sabbath day of rest was to remind the children of Israel: 1) That in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed, 2) For the children of Israel to keep it holy or sanctified by observing the Sabbath day of rest by not doing any work, 3) That the children of Israel would remember that it was the Lord God who did sanctify them and brought them out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm; therefore the LORD thy God commanded them to keep the Sabbath day of rest.

The Lord speaks through the Prophet Ezekiel…..

Ezekiel 20:12; 19-20
12  Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
19  I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;
20  And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

The penalty of not keeping the Sabbath Day of rest was DEATH!!!!!!

Numbers 15:32-36
32  And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33  And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34  And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35  And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36  And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

It is of the utmost importance to recognize why the Sabbath day rest was established and what the penalty of breaking the Sabbath day was…. which was death!!!!

So then came along Jesus, who was God with us!!!!!!

Matthew 12:1-13
1  At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

God is the same today, yesterday, and forever!!!!  So why was His disciples plucking the ears of corn on the Sabbath day as they walked along with Jesus, who was God with us???

2  But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

Hear the Word of the Lord!!!  Hear the Word of Jesus Christ!!!

3  But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4  How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

The Lord is teaching us knowledge here.  The Lord is bringing forth understanding……

5  Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

Now Hear the Answer!!  Now Hear Jesus who is the Answer!!

6  But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7  But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Hear the Word of the Lord, who has just said that his disciples are guiltless!!!!!
Why?  For a New Covenant is about to become instituted after the Lord Jesus Christ is put to death.  (Hebrews 9:16-17)  For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.  For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

We are witnessing the transferring from the Old Testament Covenant of the Mosaic Law to the New Testament Covenant of Grace and Truth.

The New Testament Covenant will come into effect after the death of Jesus Christ.  It can not come into effect until the death of the testator, which in this case is Jesus Christ!  This is what the Lord is referring to when He answered the Pharisees, when He said, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice.

Remember: (Hebrews 10:4)  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

Hebrews 8:10, 12
10  For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
12  For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

The Lord continues His answer to the Pharisees with a strong statement!!!

Remember:  Jesus Christ was God with us and the penalty of breaking the Sabbath day was DEATH!!!!

(Cont.) From Matthew 12
8  For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

There is another portion of the answer!!!  The Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath day rest.  And what the Pharisees were witnessing was the transition of the Old Testament Covenant of the Mosaic Law of works to the New Testament Covenant of Grace and Truth without the works of the Mosaic Law.

Remember why the Sabbath day was instituted???

Ezekiel 20:12; 19-20
12  Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
19  I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;
20  And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

(Cont.) From Matthew 12
9  And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10  And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11  And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12  How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13  Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Now Hear again the Lord Jesus give the answer!!!!!

Mark 2:27-28
27  And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Do we really believe that Jesus who was without sin and was also God with us, would break the Sabbath day of which He commanded the children of Israel to keep, of which He was a part of?????

Of course not.  So what is the understanding that is lacking?  1) The Sabbath day rest was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.  2) We are witnessing the transition of the Old Testament Covenant of the Mosaic Law of works to the New Testament Covenant of Grace and Truth without the works of the Mosaic Law.  3) The Sabbath day rest was only a type and a shadow of the spiritual rest that was to be found in Christ.  For the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Remember:  (John 21:25) And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Yet with all these things that Jesus done, we continuously see written in the Bible what Jesus was doing on the Sabbath day!!!!  This is because Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, and the Sabbath day was made for man, and because Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Sabbath rest.

For the receiving of the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Ghost, is the fulfillment of the shadow of which the Sabbath day rest represented!!

Again, on the Sabbath day…..

Luke 13:10-17
10  And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.
11  And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12  And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13  And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14  And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15  The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16  And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17  And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Again, on the Sabbath day…..

John 5:2-12
2  Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3  In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4  For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5  And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6  When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7  The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

Notice the command that Jesus gives to this man.  Remember the man gathering sticks in the Old Testament on the Sabbath day was stoned to death for his action.  Yet Jesus Christ, God with us, tells this man to……

8  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9  And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

The Lord Jesus is trying to get us to see something!!!!!!!  That something is this…..

Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, and the Sabbath day was made for man, and because Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Sabbath rest.

10  The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

Did the Lord Jesus Christ, He who was without sin, the Lord of Glory, instruct this man to sin by taking up his bed on the Sabbath?????

11  He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12  Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

Again, of all the miracles that Jesus Christ did, so much so, that the Apostle John said, (John 21:25) And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written; then it is of the utmost importance that we recognize that the Lord made sure that we saw that He was healing people on the Sabbath, His disciples were plucking corn on the Sabbath, He told this man to take up his bed and walk on the Sabbath; and yet this is God with us, who declared the man be stoned to death who gathered sticks on the Sabbath day under the Mosaic Law.

The Lord Jesus was giving us the instructions that:  Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, and the Sabbath day was made for man, and because Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Sabbath rest, of which would be fully recognized after the death of the testator, which in this case was Jesus Christ; that we who have the Spirit of Christ are partaking of the Sabbath rest everyday!

It is of the utmost importance that you recognize:

Hebrews 9:16-17
16  For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17  For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

So the thief on the cross that Jesus said this day you will be with me in paradise, was not under the New Testament Covenant.  For Jesus Christ had not yet died, therefore the New Testament Covenant was not in effect.

The answer is this:

Matthew 9:6
4  And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
5  For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
6  But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Jesus Christ had the power to forgive man of his sins.  So this thief on the cross, who was not under the New Testament Covenant since Jesus Christ had not yet died, was forgiven by Jesus who had the power on Earth to forgive man of their sins.

After Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and the giving of the Holy Ghost; the New Testament Covenant was fulfilled.  This took place when the day of Pentecost was fully come.

Listen to what the Apostle Paul tells us concerning the Sabbath….

Colossians 2:16-17
16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Galatians 4:9-11
9  But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
10  Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11  I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

The Apostle Paul has made it clear that we do not have to observe days, months, times, and years for we are not under the Mosaic Law.  He even asked, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Listen to the Apostle Paul again…….

Romans 14:5-6
5  One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6  He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Again the Apostle Paul has made it clear that One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

This is because we are not under the Mosaic Law but we are under the Perfect Law of Liberty which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  For the receiving of the Spirit of Christ and the baptism into Christ has fulfilled the Sabbath Rest which is in Christ.

Galatians 3:23-25
23  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

We are no longer under the Mosaic Law including the observing of days, months, times, and years; for all of this was fulfilled in Jesus Christ!!

2 Corinthians 3:3
3  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.

Romans 7:5-6
5  For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6  But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Again the Apostle Paul has made it very clear that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.  For Christ fulfilled the Mosaic Law.

Remember:  The Sabbath day of rest was established as a covenant between the children of Israel and God to remind the children of Israel:  1) That in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed, 2) For the children of Israel to keep it holy or sanctified by observing the Sabbath day of rest by not doing any work, 3) That the children of Israel would remember that it was the Lord God who did sanctify them and brought them out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm; therefore the LORD thy God commanded them to keep the Sabbath day of rest.

Now Continue to Hear the fulfillment of the Sabbath day rest in Christ and see how the children of Israel failed to enter into the rest of which they were promised…

Hebrews 3:14-19
14  For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15  While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16  For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17  But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18  And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19  So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:1-6, 9-11
1  Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Here it was identified that we (the Church) that believe, do enter into rest.

4  For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5  And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6  Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Notice this is fulfilling the elements spoken of the rest of the Sabbath and their promise of rest in the land that was flowing with milk and honey.  It was first preached to Israel who entered not in because of unbelief!

But we are told that there remains a rest to the people of God and this rest is compared to the rest of God resting the seventh day from all of his works, just as God had told Israel.

9  There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Again we are told that this rest is a ceasing from our own works as God did from His, just as was first preached to the children of Israel who did not enter into that rest because of unbelief.  But we are told to labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Here the Lord tells us that in Him lies this rest!!

The Prophet Isaiah tells us that this rest is the receiving of the Holy Ghost!!

Isaiah 28:9-13
9  Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10  For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11  For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12  To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
13  But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Romans 11:25-29
25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26  And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27  For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28  As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
29  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Praise God for that!!  This means that what you receive of God will not be taken away from you.  For it is written, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

We partake of the Rest of which was spoken of as well as the New Testament Covenant when we fulfill what the Apostle Peter spoke in the book of Acts:
Acts 2:38
38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:3-4
3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For we are sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:16
16  That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

So we see that through the New Testament Covenant that God has sanctified us, we have ceased from our own works as God did from His, and we too have been set free from the bondage of Sin.  Which is a type of the bondage of Egypt.

The Sabbath rest of the Lord fulfilled!!!

Compare to the Sabbath observance God spoke to the children of Israel…

It was a covenant between the children of Israel and God.  Just as this New Testament Covenant is between the children of Israel and God.

It is important to realize that we are the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel.  For we have partook of that seed Christ, of which was the promise.

Galatians 3:13-14, 16
13  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

The purposes in the keeping of the Sabbath day of rest was to remind the children of Israel: 1) That in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed,

Just as we were told in Hebrews chapter 4:

Hebrews 4:3-6, 8-9
3  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
8  For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9  There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

This rest is found in the receiving of the Spirit of Christ!!

The second purpose in the keeping of the Sabbath day of rest was to remind the children of Israel:

2) To keep the Sabbath day of Rest holy or sanctified by not doing any work.

Just as we were told in Hebrews chapter 4:

Hebrews 4:9-12
9  There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

It is important to realize that when we allow God to move upon us and speak in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance that we have ceased from our own works as God did from His.  For the tongue can no man tame!!

James 3:5-8
5  Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
6  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
7  For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8  But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Again, this Rest is found in the receiving of the Spirit of Christ where God then tames the untamable tongue and we cease from our own works as God did from His.

The third purpose in the keeping of the Sabbath day of rest was to remind the children of Israel:

3) That the children of Israel would remember that it was the Lord God who did sanctify them and brought them out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm; therefore the LORD thy God commanded them to keep the Sabbath day of rest.

Just as we were told in Romans:

We are sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:16
16  That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Just as the children of Israel were sanctified and brought out of the land of Egypt we too are sanctified by the Holy Ghost and set free from the bondage of sin which is a type of Egypt.

Romans 8:2
2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Galatians 4:4-7
4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Hebrews 2:14
14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Set free from Egypt…  Set free from Sin…

The Path of Wisdom

Luke 12:4-5
4  And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5  But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Proverbs 1:1-8
1  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3  To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4  To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5  A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6  To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8  My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 1:20-33
20  Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21  She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22  How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23  Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24  Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25  But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27  When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28  Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29  For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30  They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31  Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32  For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33  But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Proverbs 2:1-11
1  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3  Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8  He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9  Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10  When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11  Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Proverbs 3:9-26
9  Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11  My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12  For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
13  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14  For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18  She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19  The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20  By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21  My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22  So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
23  Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24  When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25  Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26  For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Proverbs 4:5-27
5  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6  Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8  Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9  She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10  Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11  I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12  When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13  Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14  Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15  Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16  For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17  For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18  But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19  The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20  My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22  For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24  Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25  Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26  Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27  Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Proverbs 8:12-36
12  I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
13  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
14  Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
15  By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16  By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17  I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
18  Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
19  My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20  I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21  That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
22  The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23  I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
24  When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
25  Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
26  While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
27  When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
28  When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
29  When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
30  Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31  Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
32  Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
33  Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
34  Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35  For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
36  But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

James 1:5-8
5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6  But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Psalms 34:11-16
11  Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12  What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14  Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15  The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
16  The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Job 27:4-23
4  My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
5  God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.
6  My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
7  Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.
8  For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?
9  Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?
10  Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?
11  I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
12  Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?
13  This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.
14  If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
15  Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.
16  Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;
17  He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
18  He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.
19  The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.
20  Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.
21  The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.
22  For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.
23  Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

Job 28:1-28
1  Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
2  Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
3  He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
4  The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
5  As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
6  The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
7  There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:
8  The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
9  He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
10  He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
11  He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
12  But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
13  Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
14  The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
15  It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
16  It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
17  The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
18  No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
19  The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
20  Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
21  Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
22  Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
23  God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
24  For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
25  To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
26  When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
27  Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28  And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

C & C: The LORD Gave, and the LORD hath Taken Away; Blessed be the Name of the LORD

Connections and Comparisons is an ongoing weekly series that deals with many scriptures in the Bible, some of which are not commonly addressed.  The purpose of this series is to examine the scriptures at hand comparing what is said and looking at the connections within.

Job 1:1-22
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job was a righteous man!  Job was perfect and upright! Job was one that feared God!  And Job was a man that eschewed evil!

2 And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.
3 His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

Job was a rich man!  Job was the greatest of all the men of the east!  Yet Job was a righteous man!  Job was perfect and upright! Job was one that feared God!  And Job was a man that eschewed evil!

4 And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

Job had seven sons and three daughters!  Job loved his family!  Job sanctified his family with burnt offerings according to the number of them all!  Job was one that feared God!  And Job was a man that eschewed evil!

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

God asked satan if he had considered his servant Job!  Describing him to satan that there is none like him in the earth!  A perfect and an upright man! One that fears God! And eschews evil!

Can God say the same for you?  Are you perfect and upright before God?  Are you one that fears God?  Do you eschew evil?  Can God trust you enough to ask satan if he has considered you?

9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

The accuser of the brethren has asked God does Job fear God for nought?  Then the accuser of the brethren says to God you made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.  Then the accuser of the brethren of whom God asked, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil” declares that this man Job of whom God has said there is none like him in the earth that if you (God) put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, he will curse you to your face!

The devil is a liar!  He “was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (Jn 8:44)

12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

God gave satan permission to attack all that Job had, only upon himself satan could not put forth his hand!  “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor 10:13) Do you believe it?  Do you believe that God is faithful?  And that he who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able?  That God will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it?  Be not confused! “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.” (James 1:13-16)

13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:
15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:
19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Listen carefully!  At the same time these events in Job’s life took place!  Job’s sons and daughters being ten were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Job was not able to offer up burnt offerings according to the number of them all!  Job was not able to sanctify them in case they had sinned, and cursed God in their hearts!  Job knowing that God knew that he did this for them continually!  Now Job not only lost his ten children all at once but now has no idea if they were ready to meet the Lord or not!  They may very well have sinned against God and woke up in hell!

Job lost all of his riches at the same time!  Job’s reputation of a man under God’s judgments was about to come upon him!  Many of Job’s servants were also killed that same day!  God allowed satan to use the Sabeans and the Chaldeans to rob Job of his riches while slaying his servants!  The fire of God fell from heaven, and burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them!  While a great wind from the wilderness was allowed to smote the four corners of the eldest brother’s house that killed all ten of Job’s children!  God allowed satan to have power over all that Job had except that he could not touch Job!

This question is constantly being asked in one form or another.  Why did God allow this?  Why did God allow this tornado to kill all these people?  Why did God allow my children to die?  Why did God allow satan to attack my family?  God is just, faithful, upright, and righteous!  God is Sovereign!  God is all powerful!  God works all things after the counsel of his own will!  “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.” (Deut 32:39-40)

Is it God’s fault that mankind disobeyed him?  “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Gen 2:16-17) “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Num 23:19) “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Ezek 18:4)

Is God unjust because mankind disobeyed him?  Must God give account of himself to man? “Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” (Isa 46:8-10) “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?” (Rm 9:20)

“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psa 100:3-5)

It is man that must give account to God.  “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” (Mt 12:36-37)

“Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.” (Gen 9:3-6)

“Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rm 5:18-21)

20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

Job was a righteous man!  Job was perfect and upright! Job was one that feared God!  And Job was a man that eschewed evil! Job sinned not! Job did not charge God foolishly!  Job rather worshipped God!  Job said in wisdom with understanding, “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Did the battle end there?  Did Job give up on God?  Did Job turn his back on God?  Did Job also walk away?  Did Job curse God?

Job 2:1-10
1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
2 And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

God asks satan again if he had considered his servant Job!  Describing him to satan again that there is none like him in the earth!  A perfect and an upright man! One that fears God! And eschews evil!  Then God continues and tells satan, and still he holds fast his integrity!  Although you moved me against him, to destroy him without a cause!  Can God trust you enough to ask satan if he has considered you?  Will you hold fast your integrity and continue to fear God and eschew evil while remaining perfect and upright before God?  Even after losing your family members?  Even after losing your riches?

4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” (Mt 16:24-27) Some exchange their soul for a morsel of meat as did Esau!  Others for their next hit or next fix!  Others for a movie! Still others for vain philosophy,   after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ!  And others after any number of vain behaviors and conversations of men!

5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

The accuser of the brethren now tells God after finding that his attack upon Job had failed, skin for skin, yea, all that a man has will he give for his life!  He then asks God for permission that God would put forth his hand now upon Job, and touch his bone and his flesh, then claims that Job will then curse God to his face!  And God said unto satan, behold, he is in your hand; but save his life.  Can God say to satan that you are in his hand, but save his life?  Will you remain  perfect and an upright man! One that fears God! And eschews evil!  One who will hold fast your integrity even after losing your riches and even your family members!

7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

Job was in a lot of pain!  Job was hurting all over his body!  Job had to inflict more pain upon his body to scrape off the boils!  That were from the sole of his feet unto the crown of his head!  This also taking place after the loss of all ten of his children of whom he did not have the opportunity to offer burnt sacrifices for as he did continually when they ate and drank wine together just in case they had sinned, and cursed God in their hearts!  And also after losing all his riches and many of his servants being killed!

9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Now Job’s wife tells him to curse God and die!  Nevertheless Job said to her that she speaks as one of the foolish women speaks!  Job asks the question, “What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this did not Job sin with his lips!

Job lost his children!  Job lost his riches!  Job lost many of his servants that were killed!  Job’s health was in decline while his body was full of boils while he scraped them off with a potsherd!  His wife being discouraged told him to curse God and die!

However, God did more than take away from Job although satan moved God against him, to destroy him without cause.  God gave Job his testimony!  It’s in the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, that your love for God is tested!  Your trust in God is tested!  In your temptations your walk with God and your integrity is tested!  That your testimony is given!  This is given in your sufferings along with being partakers of Christ’s sufferings!   In these sufferings of Christ that we are being made partakers of, even as our father Abraham was, we are made joint-heirs with Christ through the promised seed of Abraham, being Christ, where we will receive the promised inheritance if we faint not!  For he is faithful that promised!

Even when God takes away God gives you your testimony!

James 5:10-11
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

1 John 5:3-4
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Romans 3:24-26
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Revelation 12:10-11
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly!  Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him!

Job 19:23-27
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

Come let us Grow Together: The Sign of Circumcision

Come let us Grow Together is a weekly series that deals with the many topical categories that exist within the Word of God.  The purpose of this series is to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in things pertaining to God.

God gave to Abraham the method of cutting the covenant.

This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. (Gen 17:10-11)

Circumcision was a visible mark and sign in a man’s flesh that he had been separated unto God.

Gentiles become Abraham’s Heirs.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: (Rom 4:8-9, 11)

The method of cutting the covenant.

In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Col 2:11-14)

How to partake of the New Testament Covenant.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. (Gal 3:13-14, 16)

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.  (Gal 3:27, 29)

Who are Christ’s?  Those who have been born of water and of the Spirit.  Those who have repented and been baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, and those who have received the promise of the Holy Ghost evidenced by the speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (Rom 2:28-29)

We are speaking of how we enter into the New Testament Covenant!!  This process begins with understanding that just as Abraham received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised, that we to also enter into the New Testament Covenant with a circumcision.

Just as God cut the covenant with Abraham with the sign of circumcision, even so God also cuts the covenant with us in a different way.  Instead of it being a circumcision of the flesh, it is a circumcision of the heart.

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; (Heb 10:16)

It is important to understand that when the Lord writes His laws into your hearts and into your minds, it comes by the receiving of the Holy Ghost.

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (Heb 10:17)

To enter into this covenant one must repent of their sins and be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of their sins.  God will have cut the covenant with us because the circumcision of Christ, the circumcision made without hands, takes place when you are buried with Him in baptism.  Wherein you have faith in the operation of God who raised up Jesus from the dead.

So when we repent of our sins and get baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, we enter into the New Testament Covenant, just as Abraham entered into the covenant that God gave to him and to his seed after him.

Abraham received the sign of circumcision and was given a promise.  We too are circumcised and we too receive a promise.  The promise we receive is that we will receive the Holy Ghost.  When we receive the Holy Ghost, the Lord, writes His laws in your hearts and in your minds.

Thus you enter into the New Testament Covenant when you repent and are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of your sins.  However, you must then receive the promise to complete the fulfilment of the Covenant in which God writes His laws in your hearts and minds.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (1 Cor 12:13)

You enter into the body of Christ when you receive the Spirit of Christ.  Not beforehand.  When you are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins you enter into the New Testament Covenant, but are awaiting the promise of the believers, which is the Holy Ghost and how we gain access into the body of Christ.

Understand that it is a promise that you will receive the Spirit of Christ when you have repented of your sins and have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins.  However, until you receive the Spirit of Christ you are not in the body of Christ.  Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (Rom 8:9b)

Remember we must be born of water and of the Spirit to see or enter into the kingdom of God. (Jn 3:1-7) It is intended that when you repent and get baptized in Jesus name for the remission of your sins, that you then receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  However, we know that many times one repents and gets baptized in Jesus name, but may not receive the Holy Ghost for some time.  However, it is a promise of God that they will.  God can not lie.  It will take place.
